Let it Begin!

With the welcome arrival of warm weather, I took the kids out for a relaxing Mother’s Day afternoon on Christina Lake while mom went mountain biking with the other mothers. While the water was refreshingly cool for brief dips, the weather was stellar at a comfortable 26 degrees. We paddled around leisurely, looked at petroglyphs and jumped off cliffs. I managed a 45-minute solo jaunt and it felt great to loosen up and put the paddle to water. New SUP due any day, and a whole summer of thrills and chills await.

New Surftech B1 on the way!

I’m stoked to soon have in my possession the badass new, indestructible Surftech B1. This board is made with “bounce” technology (secret, proprietary rubberized composite) that means it can’t be dinged or scratched, making it ideal for downriver and river wave surfing. It’s also supposed to rip ocean waves and is super stable on flat water. I’ll have pics and impressions of the board up after I get it in late May.

STAND – video

This looks compelling…I am very much opposed to the Northern Gateway Pipeline. Having lived in Bella Coola for several years, I personally made a deep connection to the central and northern coast of British Columbia. The risk of an oil spill to appease big business and the Alberta (and Harper) Government greed is simply too great. I look forward to seeing the outcome of this project and doing what I can to get this important message out.

Oahu SUP

Did a ton of SUP surfing on Oahu for the past week…too busy to take any vid or many photos, but here’s a nice shot of Nicola on a sunset paddle. Oh how I’d love to surf every day, but alas it’s back to river waves and beautiful Kootenay lakes.

Ohau bound!

Well, it’s been pretty quiet on SUP Kootenays as we’ve been slashing deep powder all winter…however, the fam and I are headed to Oahu to SUP for a week! We’ve got a couple descent rental SUPs lined up and we plan to paddle our white Canadian bums off…pics, vids and more will be up soon.
